The Chicago Regional Qualifier is a full-day FTAD competition event open to all registered teams in the Midwest Region. Teams will compete across multiple scored rounds — Design Review, Technical Presentation, and Live Run — with cumulative scores determining regional advancement.
Top three finishing teams will earn automatic qualification to the FTAD National Finals. All competing teams receive official Season IV placement points regardless of final position.
8:00 AM — Check-in and Pit Setup (Main Entrance, teams only)
9:00 AM — Opening Ceremony (Main Gym)
9:30 AM – 11:30 AM — Design Review (Rooms 201–204, panel judging, 15 min/team, teams only)
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM — Technical Presentation (Auditorium, 5 min pitch + Q&A)
12:30 PM – 1:30 PM — Lunch Break (Courtyard, food trucks in Lot C)
1:30 PM – 3:00 PM — Qualifying Runs Heat 1 (Main Gym, timed, 3 laps each)
3:00 PM – 4:15 PM — Qualifying Runs Heat 2 (Main Gym, timed, 3 laps each)
4:15 PM – 5:00 PM — Awards Ceremony (Main Gym)

Engineering notebook and design documentation
Student ID for each team member
Signed permission slips (template available in Documents)
Safety glasses (required in pit area)
Mentors should check in at the faculty table in the main entrance by 8:30 AM. Judges will receive rubric packets at the briefing in Room 200 at 8:45 AM.
Mentors are not permitted in judging rooms during Design Review but may observe Technical Presentations from the audience.
This is an indoor event held in the Westbrook High School gymnasium. In the event of severe weather or facility closure, the event will be rescheduled. All registered teams will be notified by email at least 24 hours in advance.
On-site first aid is available in the nurse's office adjacent to the gymnasium.
